In Grammar and High school Art was a favorite class. In my 30's I took a class at the California Art Institute in Thousand Oaks, Ca. There I learned about colors and how to paint. My favorite was oil painting. Most of my walls in my house are my own pieces of artwork. Being in the Real Estate industry since 1989, I've always enjoyed taking on a new project. From painting the exterior and interior walls, kitchen and bathroom cabinets and custom tiling sinks. From making a bathroom shelf out of old barn wood, farm styling my kitchen table to re finishing my own kitchen cabinets. Then one day, I crossed paths with one of the most extraordinary wood finishers of all time, the late Mr. Peter McWilliams. In 2014 he allowed me to be his weekend apprentice. It was then I started to learn the trade skills that he had learned in college and from his many years of professional experience. Pete had two degrees one in organic chemistry and the other in decorative arts from the University of Buffalo, NY. He started his career in the 70s in Beverly Hills, then went to the San Fernando Valley. Later on he opened a shop in Westlake Village in the Conejo Valley. He passed away in 2022. Pete was brilliant beyond the most intellect and could match any color out of anything. He matched a specific color from a rose petal for Barbara Streisand's Malibu home. Over the years I learned how to refinish, stain wood, distress kitchen cabinets and repair furniture. The most memorable job with Pete was refinishing the isles of the Dolby Theater In Hollywood, CA for the Grammy Awards. I was fortunate to learn the trade from the best. Wood finishing is an art for the creative souls. Enjoy what you do, do what you enjoy!
